The Bristol Oporto Foundation encourages projects initiated by school, youth and special interest groups for which small grants may be available.
Bristol young people, some from disadvantaged backgrounds, have benefited from such grant-assisted projects.
Artist Anna Oliver worked in Oporto for one month: "The visit revolutionised my art," said Anna. "I was originally involved in three-dimensional sculpture but in Oporto I became inspired by the wonderful ceramic tiles," she continued. "When I returned, I began to experiment with two-dimensional work, using computers and photocopies to repeat images".
Chorister Alex Liddle was one of 18 boys from Bristol Cathedral who gave three concerts to enthusiastic Oporto audiences. "The experience boosted our confidence. It made us more co-ordinated as a choir," he said.
