CONGRATULATIONS to Nlarge

The 2007 Award Winners.

Nlarge is a group of dynamic young photographers aged 12-16 years who learn photography and carry out real commissions. They meet weekly at the Helen Bloom Centre in Hartcliffe and train with professional photographers to learn about documentary, location, studio photography and different camera formats. The youngsters attend different schools in south Bristol.

A number of their photographs have already been published in magazines, reports, books and online and they were also exhibited at the Centrespace Gallery. They are also developing into a young person's enterprise. Currently they are working on a large commission for ASCEL, the national body representing librarians, to capture images of libraries and our changing stereotypes.

Nlarge's project for the BOA has been to produce a series of photographs (samples shown) depicting a wide range of links with Oporto that are visible here in Bristol. For example, signs, places, people etc. all of whom are connected in some way with the city of Oporto. It is surprising how many there are ... we will be printing some in Diario to see if you can work out where it is or even what it is!!

The Bristol Oporto Association might look next to include a selection of these photographs in a booklet to show the links with Oporto that are literally on our doorstep.

The generosity of NatWest Bank some years ago in making a donation to our charitable Foundation has meant we are able to continue to offer these awards to young people in the Bristol area.
